Chapter 2: Farewell Southdale

Fandri’s night vision was hampered by the bright light of the guest house, so he inched his way through the darkness surrounding the village. He quickened his pace through the woods to the farmhouse using Fandri-La’s glow to light the way. Unlike his own home, where everyone slept in the one room, Emina had a bedroom to herself with a shuttered window.

With a beating heart, Fandri scratched on the wooden shutter, being careful not to make too much noise and rouse her irritable father. A long pause ensued with no sound from inside the house. Fandri sighed, scratched again and spoke in a low voice. “Emmy, Emmy, come to the window. It’s me, Fandri.”

Fandri-La tapped him on the shoulder. “Let me squeeze through the crack and wake her.”

The fairy wiggled her way inside and shortly Fandri heard the shutters open. Fandri-La flew to him with a smile of mischief and excitement.

Emina peered out into the night and spied Fandri in his fairy’s light.

Her fairy flew out and clasped hands with Fandri-La while Emina climbed out the window. “Hush.” She pressed a finger to Fandri’s lips and embraced him with passion.

His heart felt as though it would burst out of his chest as he gathered her in his arms. Their lips and bodies pressed together.
